Physical therapy is used to evaluate, treat and aid in a patient’s recovery from injury, disease, or other health related conditions. Physical therapy can also be used to slow or prevent a disability from progressing.
A Physical Therapist (PT) uses a combination of tools, techniques and patient education to relieve pain and restore range of motion, strength, endurance and coordination. PT’s may use heat, cold, mild electricity, ultrasound and massage on the affected area. Also, guided, specific exercises that are targeted to the affected area and injury are often used. Often, a PT will prescribe exercises to do at home.
